EU VAT checker
Validating EU customer VAT numbers from inside Apivom Iris.
What it does.
When you add or edit a Company record in Apivom Iris, the EU VAT checker validates the supplied VAT number against the European Commission's VIES service. If the number is valid, the official trader name and address returned by VIES are stored on the Company record together with a timestamped validation receipt.
How to use it.
- Open a Company in Iris.
- Enter the EU VAT number in the VAT number field (format: 2-letter country code + national number, for example
DE123456789). - Click Validate. Iris calls VIES through Apivom Atlas and shows the result inline.
- If valid, the trader name and address are saved on the Company. The validation receipt is retained for audit.
Rate limits and caching.
VIES has per-country rate limits. Apivom Atlas caches successful validations briefly to absorb duplicate requests, but the cache is short — re-validations on the same VAT number within minutes may return the cached result. For audit purposes, each manual validation creates a fresh receipt.
Public lookup tool.
If you only need a one-off lookup without an Iris account, use the public EU Business Lookup tool. The Iris-integrated checker is intended for embedding the result into a CRM record; the public tool is a standalone utility with double opt-in.
