Colorado Business Entities API (Secretary of State)
Search every business entity registered with the Colorado Secretary of State — name, entity id, status, type, formation date, principal and agent addresses — from the state's Socrata open-data feed, through Apivom Atlas.
What you can do
Use cases
- Colorado customer verification — Confirm that a Colorado LLC or corporation exists and is in Good Standing before extending credit or signing a reseller agreement.
- Registered-agent and address lookup — Retrieve the registered agent and principal office address to serve notices or validate the address on an order.
- Local prospecting — List recently formed entities of a given type to build lead lists for services aimed at new Colorado businesses.
The Colorado Secretary of State publishes its full business-entity register as an open dataset on the Colorado Information Marketplace (Socrata). Apivom Atlas exposes it as a single search route: filter by entityname, entityid or entitystatus, or pass $q for free-text matching, and receive the matching entities with type, status, formation date, jurisdiction, principal office and registered-agent details. It is the first U.S. state register in the Atlas catalogue and a template for adding further state Secretary of State feeds. Responses are cached server-side so repeat lookups are free, and every call is logged in your Atlas portal.

Frequently asked questions
Does it cover other US states?
This route covers Colorado only. Most states publish their own registers in different formats; tell us which states you need and we add them to the Atlas catalogue the same way.
What does 'Delinquent' mean?
The entity missed a periodic report or fee with the Secretary of State. It still exists but may lose good standing; many counterparties require Good Standing before contracting.
How is the API billed?
Prepaid and per query: you top up a balance in Apivom Atlas and each successful query debits the route price shown there. Identical repeat queries are served from the server-side cache free of charge ("cached": true in the response); add ?force=true to refresh at the route price. HTTP 402 means the balance needs a top-up.
How do I authenticate and where do I see my usage?
Every request carries your tenant API key in the x-api-key header; keys are issued and rotated in Apivom Atlas. The portal logs every query with the full request and response payload, so finance and engineering share one audit trail.
